Title: What Can We Learn About Chronic Rhinosinusitis Through Mucus?
Jennifer Mulligan, PhD, is a pioneer in nasal
mucus biomarker research for chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS). Her lab was the
first to show that nasal mucus can serve as a surrogate for tissue biopsies and
can track inflammatory changes in response to treatment. She later led the
first multi?center study demonstrating reliable biomarker results across
institutions, helping establish mucus sampling as a global research tool. At
the University of Florida, Dr. Mulligan continues advancing mucus biomarker
research. She currently serves as co-leader of an NIH?funded clinical trial to
determine if differences in clinical outcomes can be seen across
specific biologics in CRSwNP and that nasal mucus biomarkers can be used to
identify patients most likely to improve on biologic therapy. Her work has been featured by the
BBC and in leading scientific journals.
